Re-Experiencing History in a new version

The Re-Experiencing History platform is now available in a new version. It combines AI-supported image generation with research in ancient history and archaeology, making it possible to visualise historical scenes such as Roman military formations, triumphal processions and ancient architecture.

A new prompt optimisation feature draws on more than 3.2 million passages from academic literature. The changes made to a prompt can be traced back to their sources. A plausibility score also indicates how well a generated image corresponds to current historical research.

The visualisations are intended as part of the research process. They make assumptions visible and can help researchers examine historical hypotheses.

The platform is currently available to members of the University of Zurich. An opening to other institutions is planned.
