The project focused on developing an innovative image application that allows users to not only view visual content, but also experience and interpret it in new ways. The application was completed on schedule, tested technically, and implemented in various application scenarios. It thus offers a functional and sustainable result that can be used and expanded beyond the project period.
Parallel to the technical implementation, the conceptual and theoretical foundations of the project were developed and published in several scientific articles. These publications document the central findings, reflect the interdisciplinary approach, and ensure the visibility of the results in the international scientific community. The close connection between practical development and scientific reflection has succeeded in creating added value in terms of both methodology and content.
The project has also shown how digital tools can deepen our understanding of historical and cultural contexts. By making image material accessible in new ways, it opens up new avenues for research, teaching, and communication. Re-Experiencing has thus not only produced concrete results, but also made a lasting contribution to the further development of digital humanities.
The web application is available at reexperiencinghistory.hist.uzh.ch.
The project achieved broad visibility through presentations at UZH (ZAZH Open House, Dies Academicus 2024) and external events (Brain.AI, Talk im Turm). Media coverage included a UZH Research Spotlight film, articles in UZH magazine and UZH News, and an article in Forbes magazine.
