IMMERSE in video. Immersive Technologies for Higher Education and Vocational Training

IMMERSE develops frameworks and formats to enable the targeted use of XR technologies in higher education and vocational training. In the video, the project team explains where these technologies are already adding value today: in medicine and surgery, 3D visualisations help to better understand spatial structures such as arteries, veins and bones, and to prepare for procedures with greater precision. The OR-X, an operating theatre of the future, uses AR glasses to display context-specific information directly in the surgeon’s field of vision. In teacher training, students practise challenging parent-teacher meetings with AI-powered avatars.

A key objective of IMMERSE is to lower the barriers to the use of immersive technologies. In future, lecturers should be able to integrate 3D content into their teaching as naturally as they currently do with presentations. To this end, the project is establishing a knowledge hub that documents practical examples and serves as a starting point for other academic departments.

IMMERSE is a joint project between UZH, ZHAW and PHZH, bringing together partners from the fields of education and technology. The industry partners are Balgrist University Hospital, Siemens Healthineers and afca. IMMERSE is funded in the 2nd Structural Call.
