Data Story: Cooperation between universities

Digital transformation affects not only technical aspects, but also social, economic and cultural dimensions. It therefore requires researchers from different disciplines to work together. The DIZH promotes this collaboration.

369 researchers are involved in the projects under the innovation programme. Almost 80 per cent are working on projects involving several universities.

The result can be visualised as a network. Each researcher is a node, and each collaborative project is a connection. Smaller networks often consist of individual projects, whilst larger ones emerge where people repeatedly collaborate on research in ever-changing constellations. The largest of these networks encompasses all four universities and brings together expertise in medicine, design and AI.

This collaboration is complemented by three bridge professorships, which are structurally situated between UZH and one of each of the partner universities.

This interconnection is also evident across disciplines. Computer science has the most links to other disciplines, with 157 collaborations, most frequently with biomedical and clinical sciences.

Since 2020, the Canton of Zurich and its four universities have been investing jointly in digital transformation. What is the result? Our Data Stories provide the answers.
