Museum of the Future – 17 Digital Experiments

How can objects in museums remain accessible when they are too large, too fragile, or too valuable to be displayed? The exhibition “Museum of the Future – 17 Digital Experiments” addresses this question and shows how digital technologies and artificial intelligence enable new forms of communication.

Seventeen digital experiments transform the exhibition space into a laboratory of the future and open up new perspectives on the interplay between preservation and communication. Visitors can learn about innovative approaches to museum work and discover, among other things, the largest digital image ever created.

The exhibition is on display at the Museum of Design Zurich until February 1, 2026.

VR installation “Being a Spider”

How does a spider perceive its environment? The research project Being a Spider uses virtual reality to enable an unusual change of perspective and investigates whether this can change attitudes toward arachnids.

AI and museums: “Machine access to the past”

For the digital guide to the exhibition “Museum of the Future – 17 Digital Experiments,” DIZH bridge professor Dr. Roland Meyer explains the role of AI in the museum context.

The “Museum of the Future” exhibition was funded in the second Project Call. The research project “Being a Spider“, which can also be experienced in the exhibition, is being funded in the third Project Call.
