The Re-Experiencing History project has been completed. An interactive platform has been developed that allows users to visually design historical scenes from antiquity themselves. With the help of AI and specially trained models, users can create their own visualizations via a prompt interface, whether of Roman triumphal processions or everyday life in ancient Greece.
The platform integrates current research findings, so that the images generated go beyond what conventional AI models can achieve. The web application is available at reexperiencinghistory.hist.uzh.ch.
The project combines ancient history, computational linguistics, classical philology, digital humanities, and visualization sciences. The conceptual foundations have been documented in several scientific publications. The project has attracted considerable interest, including a report in Forbes magazine.
