On June 24, 2025, a new interactive tool for promoting AI skills among young people was presented at an online event. The event provided an introduction to the digital offering, accompanying teaching materials and an insight into current research on the role of AI in education.
The tool was developed as part of the project “Digital resilience: Tool for AI and deepfake skills among young people”, which is being funded in the 3rd Rapid Action Call. It gives young people between 12 and 16 years a clear understanding of what generative AI is, how it can be used in a school context, the risks involved and the ethical issues that arise. The focus is on a reflective, responsible and creative approach to AI.
The introduction takes place via an interactive scenario in the fictitious school “NextGenAI”, where AI is already being used extensively. The users themselves help to shape the extent to which AI shapes everyday school life and deal with different perspectives, fields of application and limits.
The free online tool is based on current research findings and is geared towards “Lehrplan 21”. It was developed specifically for use in the school environment. It is supplemented by a collection of materials and a brochure with didactic tips that can be integrated into lessons on a modular basis.
An explanatory video, access to the tool and all accompanying materials for teachers and learners are available on the website.
An accompanying user study shows that the tool is rated positively by teachers and students. The project team is currently looking for more young people (aged 12-16) who would like to test the tool.
