Companies and investors are under increasing pressure to understand and manage their impact on nature. But supply chains are global, sites are widely scattered, and reliable data is lacking.
This is where PanGeo Nature Risk comes in. The company has set itself the goal of using a digital platform to assess corporate sites – from mines and plantations to production facilities – in terms of biodiversity and water risks. It is based on Earth observation data and geodata, which visualise companies’ spatial footprints and provide measurable assessments of ecosystem capacities.
The project builds on the BioVaR concept, which was funded in the 1st Rapid Action Call, and translates it into a scalable platform solution. The starting point is the mining sector, where the methods are being calibrated in collaboration with the European COST Action REMINDNET. There are plans to expand into other sectors such as industry and agriculture.
“Digitising Environmental Impacts using Geospatial Analytics” was funded in the 1st Founder Call; PanGeo Nature Risk GmbH was founded as part of this funding.
