AI skills in higher education institutions

How are universities approaching the use of AI in teaching? What works and what doesn’t? The Coordination Committee Education Program is exploring these questions together. The discussion on March 4, 2026 revealed that the challenges are similar across institutions. Some lecturers actively use AI tools, whilst others reject them on ethical or data protection grounds. In between lies a large group that feels uncertain and is seeking guidance.

Alexandra Jansky, Margherita Valle and Lukas Löffel provided an insight into UZH’s initiatives: UZH.ai brings together activities relating to AI in research, teaching and continuing education. The AI Coaches programme brings students and lecturers together to explore how AI can be meaningfully integrated into teaching.

The discussion highlighted common themes: the limited reach of central initiatives, and unresolved issues regarding data protection and equal opportunities. The Coordination Committee Education Program will continue the dialogue.
