Training writing motor skills through play: Implementation of a serious game to support writing difficulties

Konditorei Kritzel

Konditorei Kritzel is a digital serious game that motivates children with writing difficulties to do motor skills exercises in a playful way. In addition to promoting motor skills, the game aims to convey a sense of achievement that has a positive effect on mental well-being.

The game was developed by an interdisciplinary team from ZHAW (Institute of Public Health and Occupational Therapy), ZHdK (Game Design), and PHZH (Education) and has been successfully tested in a pilot study. Its development was made possible by a ZHAW digital fellowship and the first Rapid Action Call.

The outreach project is now putting “Konditorei Kritzel” into practice: workshops, information materials, and targeted dissemination are promoting its use in schools, therapy, and families. The aim is to increase the visibility and use of this digital education and health innovation.
