Why open data needs more visibility

In an interview with Katia Soland, Anna Sigrist, co-director of Opendata.ch, talks about the importance of open data and Opendata.ch’s involvement in the DIZH Public Data Lab (PDL).

She explains why open data is often perceived as an abstract topic and why it is important to highlight the concrete social benefits of open data. Anna Sigrist sees the PDL as a space for experimentation, where different actors from science, administration, culture, and civil society come together to share and analyze data and translate it into applicable knowledge.

It also addresses issues of transparency, equal opportunity, and digital sustainability, as well as the challenges of making open data understandable and relevant beyond specialist circles.

"Open data is a very abstract topic. That's why concrete use cases in the PDL are all the more important in demonstrating the benefits of open data."

The Public Data Lab (PDL) is funded in the second Structure Call.
