Not all forms of gainful employment appear in official statistics. Especially where working conditions are precarious or wages are barely enough to live on, those affected often remain invisible to the public.
In this interview, Karin Schwiter, professor of labor geography at the University of Zurich, talks about how she researches these gaps in data collection and why the Public Data Lab is an ideal place to develop new ways of making them visible. Together with partners from practice and research, she wants to help raise awareness of these forms of work and bring them into the social discourse.
