AI, clichés and right-wing visual narratives

How do AI-generated images reshape our understanding of reality, history and identity? DIZH bridge professor Roland Meyer explores how generative AI not only creates new visual worlds but also reinforces political narratives, from hypermasculine portrayals to nostalgic fantasies of an idealized past. Right-wing actors are increasingly using these tools for propaganda, while the cleansing of digital archives threatens to distort our visual heritage.

The article “False Heroes and a Disappearing Soldier” by Roger Nickl was published in the latest issue of the UZH Magazine. Read the full article here and learn more about Roland Meyer’s research.
