Measure quality of life automatically and improve it in the long term

The Public Data Lab uses data to better understand social, economic and ecological change processes and their effects. However, data alone is not enough, as it is only by combining it into meaningful indicators that a comprehensive assessment of the quality of life becomes possible, which serves as a basis for knowledge and action.

One of the lighthouse projects, supervised by Jan Dirk Wegner (UZH), examines the contribution of nature and the environment to quality of life. He and his team are developing various indicators and using machine learning to record plant and animal species and their connection to quality of life. Among other things, Street View panorama images for vegetation mapping are included in the analysis.

The interdisciplinary project combines technical expertise with various specialist disciplines and thus opens up new perspectives on the complex issue of quality of life.

The Public Data Lab is funded in the 2. Structure Call.
