How AI is changing the way we write and think

In the third DSI Insights of the year, Noah Bubenhofer, Co-Director of the Digital Society Initiative (DSI), explains how artificial intelligence (AI) can help with writing texts and why it doesn’t always make sense to leave the writing of a text entirely to AI.

"In the educational context, this raises the important question of which language skills pupils should be taught - and how this is best done: Does digital writing with automatic spelling and grammar checking lead to a loss of language skills in general? What happens if AI is used even more extensively for writing and reading?"

Generative AI is changing the way we use language: from writing to information processing. It offers practical support, but raises fundamental questions: Who bears responsibility for AI-supported texts? What does this mean for education, authorship and language skills?

In the DSI Insights column, Noah Bubenhofer explains that automated writing changes thought processes and calls traditional practices into question. How society deals with this requires interdisciplinary solutions.
