Exergames combine physical activity with digital gaming elements and research suggests they have potential for rehabilitation, training and prevention. The Exergames for Health project, carried out by ZHAW and ZHdK in collaboration with Winterthur Cantonal Hospital and the VAMED Rehabilitation Centre Zurich, aimed to share expertise on exergames in a healthcare context with professionals and the general public.
Several workshops were held. Topics included game design, available technologies in physiotherapy and the co-creative development of exergames in interdisciplinary teams. In the practical session, participants developed their own concepts and tested existing systems.
At the same time, a publicly accessible information platform was created under the name ExerUp! Portal. The website www.exerup.ch presents eight exergame devices and summarises the current state of research. A LinkedIn channel adapts scientific findings for a wider audience. The ExerUp! Portal and the LinkedIn channel continue to be used.
This project was funded in the 1st Outreach-Call.
