SUMMARY:Von Poetologie zu Poeto-ludie? Wenn digitale Spiele über sich selbst nachdenken
DESCRIPTION:In der Literaturwissenschaft ist die Idee\, dass literarische Texte häufig über ihr eigenes Gemachtsein nachdenken – sog. Poetologie – schon längst etabliert. Aber auch andere Medien haben poetologische Techniken bis zu einem gewissen Grad etabliert; am berühmtesten ist wohl das «Fourth Wall Breaking» in Filmen und Serien\, bei dem Charaktere direkt in die Kamera schauen und das Publikum unvermittelt ansprechen. Dadurch hebeln sie zwischenzeitlich die willentliche Aussetzung der Ungläubigkeit aus und entlarven die Darstellung als solche. \n\n\n\n\nFunktioniert Poetologie auch in digitalen Spielen\, die wir nicht nur rezipieren\, sondern mit denen wir vielmehr aktiv interagieren? Und ob! Seit es digitale Spiele gibt\, werden poetologische Techniken bewusst wie unbewusst\, punktuell wie spielbestimmend eingesetzt und erzielen hochinteressante Effekte. DESCRIPTION:Wie messen wir den Puls des Kantons Zürich? \nWir laden Sie herzlich zum Launch des DIZH Public Data Labs (PDL) ein. Das PDL widmet sich gesellschaftlichen\, ökonomischen und ökologischen Veränderungsprozessen im Kanton Zürich. Als kollaboratives Projekt\, das vom Geographischen Institut und dem Department for Mathematical Modelling and Machine Learning der Universität Zürich (UZH)\, dem Institute for Contemporary Art Research der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK)\, dem Statistischen Amt des Kantons Zürich und dem Verein opendata.ch getragen wird\, aktiviert das Lab Schnittstellen zwischen Forschung\, Verwaltung\, Policy-Making und Gesellschaft. Im Projekt bearbeiten wir unter anderem folgende Fragen: Wie kann Transformation gemessen werden? Wer wird dabei vernachlässigt? Wie interpretieren wir Resultate und wie leiten wir Massnahmen und Handlungen ab? Wie können gesellschaftliches Bewusstsein und Vertrauen in diese Vorgänge geschaffen werden? Der Launch Event gibt Einblick in die Diskussionen\, die das PDL antreiben. DESCRIPTION:Digitale Lernumgebungen werden oft mit dem Versprechen eingeführt\, Unterricht stärker an den Bedürfnissen der Schülerinnen und Schüler auszurichten. Adaptivität\, Individualisierung\, Heterogenität und Personalisierung sind nur einige Schlagwörter in diesem Kontext. Doch machen digitale Tools die Volksschule wirklich gerechter? Oder sind nicht eher neue Formen der Benachteiligung und Ausgrenzung zu erwarten? \nDie nächste Veranstaltung von «Forschung im Dialog» greift diese Problematik auf\, indem sie Perspektiven aus der Bildungspraxis sowie der Toolentwicklung mit Erkenntnissen der Forschung zusammenführt. Auf ein Impulsreferat aus der Forschung folgt eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Gästen zur Frage\, wie Bildungsgerechtigkeit auch in einem zunehmend digitalen Bildungssystem gewährleistet respektive erst hergestellt werden kann. SUMMARY:EdTech Hackathon: Focusing on Adaptive Self-Regulated Learning
DESCRIPTION:EdTech Hackathon: Focusing on Adaptive Self-Regulated Learning brings together researchers\, lecturers\, students\, and EdTech professionals to collaboratively explore how educational technologies can support adaptive and self-regulated learning. With a strong focus on real-world challenges posed by Swiss EdTech companies\, this interdisciplinary event invites participants—especially those with backgrounds in education\, psychology\, learning sciences\, and engineering—to co-design research-based solutions. \nTeams will tackle concrete problems presented by two EdTech companies Evulpo and Stealth Startup\, including: \n\nDeveloping adaptive learning paths and evaluating their effectiveness\nImproving teacher-facing UX with data-driven insights\nDesigning AI-driven interactivity that fosters cognitive engagement and social learning\nEnhancing learner motivation through gamification and feedback mechanisms\n\nThroughout the hackathon\, participants will receive guidance from expert mentors\, attend keynotes from prominent professors\, and collaborate in shaping research prototypes and project concepts. \nThe event will culminate in a pitch session evaluated by a jury of academic and industry experts. Selected teams and/or individuals may be offered internship opportunities with participating EdTech companies\, continued faculty mentorship\, and support in pursuing research funding. We thus invite leaders from across the world to take the stage and share their understanding of leadership in the future of work. \nThe lecture takes place bi-annually\, in the Spring and in the Fall. The audience is composed of current and future leaders\, taking part via video streaming and in person in Zurich. SUMMARY:React & Respond. Image Cultures under Platform Capitalism
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary networked image cultures cannot be understood outside of platform capitalism. Today\, the production\, distribution and reception of visual media is largely managed and controlled by the algorithmic infrastructures\, corporate policies and business models of digital platforms. At the heart of platform architectures is the quantification\, evaluation and monetization of reactions – whatever we encounter online is designed to trigger our reactions\, and our reaction patterns in turn drive the visual economies of platform capitalism. With algorithmically curated feeds and personalized content\, what we get to see online and how we react to it is inextricably linked in ways we can often only speculate about. \nBringing together scholars and artists from a range of fields and backgrounds\, the international conference «React & Respond» aims to map and analyze these contemporary economies of networked image cultures and their aesthetic\, ideological and political implications. \nFollowing an opening night with a screening at Kino Xenix on Thursday\, October 2nd\, the conference will continue on Friday\, October 3rd\, at Cabaret Voltaire and conclude on Saturday\, October 4th\, at the Fotomuseum Winterthur. Xena’s Body (2023) by Occitane Lacurie uses the example of period tracking apps to show how intimate interaction with the continuous stream of images and data on smartphones exposes the female* body to a largely invisible form of surveillance. Their Eyes (2025) by Nicolas Gourault shows the often invisible\, precarious work of data workers in the Global South\, who are tasked with making the visible world readable for AI pattern recognition by classifying and annotating vast amounts of digital images. In the accompanying discussion\, the filmmakers will consider how film can be used to convey realities whose experience is increasingly mediated\, filtered\, and controlled by digital interfaces and algorithmic pattern recognition. \n––––––\nConference Day 1\n3. With the proliferation of AI-generated media\, optimised to trigger user interactions and reactions\, aesthetic preferences and ideological expectations of potential consumers are reinforced and automated.
