DESCRIPTION:Was sollten Lehrperson und Lernende über Bias im Zusammenhang mit KI wissen? Wie kann mit der Klasse thematisiert werden\, inwiefern Ergebnisse aus generativer KI Stereotype festigen und sogar verstärken? Wie können Algorithmen in KI-Systemen Bildungs- und Berufschancen beeinflussen? Wie und weshalb Diversität und Inklusion fördern? Anlässlich des Weltfrauentags 2024 mit dem Motto #InspireInclusion widmen wir uns u.a. diesen Fragen. Nach dem Eröffnungsvortrag und der Podiumsdiskussion diskutieren wir Erfahrungen und Ideen für den Unterricht. \nDas Eröffnungsreferat hält Sara Dolf-Metzler\, Managing Partner und Beraterin bei Diversidad\, MA Management and Economics UZH\, zuvor u.a. Leiterin Fachstelle Diversität an der Fachhochschule Graubünden. Im Anschluss werden die Fragen zuerst im Podium und anschliessend mit allen Teilnehmenden diskutiert. DESCRIPTION:Die Veränderungen im Kontext der Digitalisierung stellen Akteur:innen an Hochschulen immer wieder vor Herausforderungen. Nach einem kurzen Input zu den Herausforderungen der digitalen Transformation öffnen wir in zwei parallelen Tracks den Diskussionsraum für die Fragen\, welche Art von Kompetenzen Hochschulakteure für die Gestaltung der digitalen Transformation benötigen und wie diese vermittelt werden können. Wir diskutieren methodische\, didaktische\, technische und ethische Herausforderungen im Kontext von KI in der Hochschulbildung und thematisieren Ansätze des Kompetenzerwerbs am Beispiel eines Lernangebots für Digitalkompetenzen. \nDu interessierst Dich für das Thema und möchtest dabei sein? SUMMARY:Gaming with a Purpose: Empowering Players through Citizen Science
DESCRIPTION:„Games in Context“ Public Lecture Series with Attila Szantner (MMOS\, McGill University Canada)\n\nOver the last eight years\, an unlikely marriage has formed between AAA games and crowdsourced citizen science. Players of EVE Online and Borderlands 3 were introduced to new in-game features through which players can resolve scientific challenges through EVE Online: Project Discovery and Borderlands Science\, which engaged over 5 million players\, amassed over 700 million scientific data analyses\, and were praised by worldwide media in coverage from the New Yorker to the front-page of Nature Biotechnology\, becoming two of the most active and impactful citizen science projects to serve science. And this is all thanks to video games.\nThis talk will tell the story of how games and gamer communities can manifest themselves as a force for good in the world through community building and engagement\, employee retention through real-world impact\, and a contributor to scientific discoveries.

SUMMARY:CYRENZH: Workshop on Cyber Clinics
DESCRIPTION:The mission of CYRENZH  is to establish a structure that can sustainably increase the cyber resilience in the Canton of Zurich\, thereby strengthening and protecting its economy and society. For that reason\, we are currently working to establish a joint UZH/ZHAW “cyber clinic” which will leverage the skills of university students to increase the cyber hygiene of eligible organizations. We currently view the scope of the cyber clinics as strictly preventative and want to permanently integrate them into the respective university structures. Extending this partnership to other local partners like the ETH is also a possibility we are exploring. \nCentral questions we want to answer at this stage are: What services should we offer? How can cyber clinics be sustainably integrated into existing and developing curricula? Who can teach courses and supervise students? In general\, what motivates stakeholders – students\, prospective clients\, and facilitators – to support and participate in this initiative? \nHOW WE WANT TO DO THAT? \nTo ensure sustainable engagement in the clinics\, it is important to understand the needs and interests of the designated stakeholders who will be involved in the Clinics – Students (who will provide the services)\, Clients (who will receive services)\, and Facilitators (who will coordinate and manage the Clinic activities\, give lectures\, supervise students\, and ensure overall quality control). Given the many services we could potentially offer\, it is important to prioritize them based on the stakeholder input. Concretely\, we want to: \n\nCompile a comprehensive list of possible services that could be listed in the portfolio\,\nGet a grasp of the potential obstacles and their solution\,\nDetermine the feasibility and impact of each service\,\nLearn about the skills\, willingness\, and motivation of the stakeholders to get involved.\n\nWORKSHOP \nFor this purpose\, we will conduct a workshop in our annual CYRENZH “Shaping the Roadmap” event. SUMMARY:Lerntechnologien als Hebel für Veränderungen von Unterrichtspraktiken
DESCRIPTION:Engin Bumbacher: \nWeltweit erleben wir einen Boom digitaler Lerntechnologien\, die vermehrt Einzug in Schulen erhalten. Für dieselben Lernziele stehen eine Vielzahl von Plattformen und Tools zur Auswahl\, die sich in ihrem Design erheblich unterscheiden. Meine präsentierten Forschungsergebnisse werden verdeutlichen\, dass diese Designunterschiede von grosser Bedeutung sind. Selbst kleinste Abweichungen im Design können messbare Auswirkungen auf Lehr- und Lernpraktiken haben. Ich werde weiter darlegen\, dass Designentscheidungen in Lerntechnologien keineswegs lernneutral sind\, sondern bewusst oder unbewusst Überzeugungen und Theorien über das Lernen widerspiegeln und dadurch die Lernprozesse massgeblich beeinflussen. Dies ist zwar einerseits problematisch\, birgt aber andererseits eine Chance\, gezielt positive Veränderungen in Lehr- und Lernpraktiken herbeizuführen. Ich werde aufzeigen\, was wir als Forschungs- und Bildungsgemeinschaft tun können\, um dieses Potenzial zu positiver Veränderung zu nutzen. Im Anschluss an meinen Vortrag lade ich zur Diskussion über die Rolle von Lerntechnologien als Gestaltungselemente für Bildung. \nBildung und Digitalität: Perspektiven aus Forschung und Praxis\nDie Veranstaltungen thematisieren unterschiedliche Aspekte\, die mit dem Thema Bildung und Digitalität zusammenhängen. Sie beleuchten\, auf welche Weise in Forschung und Praxis die Potenziale für Digitalisierung im Bildungswesen erschlossen und genutzt werden\, aber auch welche Herausforderungen sich ergeben. Die Reihe präsentiert verschiedene aktuelle Diskussionsfelder im Hinblick auf die Forschung und auf die Bildungspraxis. \nDie Veranstaltungsreihe findet vollständig online über Zoom statt. Sie besteht aus Vorträgen und Dialogen: \n\nIn den Vorträgen referieren Forscher:innen während einer 30-minütigen Präsentation zu ihrem Forschungsprojekt. Darauf folgt eine Diskussions- und Fragerunde mit den Zuhörenden.\nIn den Dialogen stellt eine Fachperson während eines Input-Referates ihre Forschung und Beispiele aus der Praxis vor. Danach besprechen die Zuhörer:innen in virtuellen Kleingruppen ihre Fragen an die Fachperson. Im Anschluss treffen sich alle im virtuellen Plenum\, um in Diskussion zu gehen.\n\nAnmeldungen sind über das Anmeldeformular bis kurz vor Beginn der Veranstaltung möglich. She also plays a key role in fostering community through organising Live Coding Events and offering free workshop on TouchDesigner.  \nNikola Pascher | Mettler-Toledo International  \nDr. Nikola Pascher is an experienced technology and innovation manager\, specialized in data science for digital solutions and high-precision measurement instrumentation. Currently\, she is the global head of Mettler Toledo’s R&D team in the strategic business unit standard industry. She studied physics at the University of Augsburg in Germany. Her PhD studies at ETH Zurich\, Switzerland\, and a consecutive postdoctoral assignment at IBM Research – Zurich were focused on quantum science. She extended her knowledge with an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen. Holding a Master’s in Psychology of Excellence in Business and Education\, she explores human-machine relationships as an associate researcher at the Leibniz Institut für Wissensmedien \nMonika Reif  |  Co-Head Safety Critical Systems Research Lab\, IAMP\, ZHAW  \nProfessor Monika Reif is co-head of the Safety Critical Systems Research Lab at the ZHAW School of Engineering. She holds a diploma in mechanical engineering and obtained her PhD in reliability engineering from the University of Stuttgart\, being awarded the VDI Ehrenring. Her professional background includes extensive experience as a safety engineer at BMW and Bombardier Transportation. During her tenure at ZHAW\, she has been involved in numerous research projects in the field of safety critical systems in collaboration with various companies and authorities. A major focus of her research is dedicated to the development\, verification and certification of safe AI systems\, with the aim of establishing trustworthy AI systems in safety critical applications.

Das Kurzformat dient dem Wissens- und Handlungstransfer unter Lehrenden an Hochschulen\, in dieser Veranstaltung zum Thema der Playification in der Lehre. \nInhalte \n\n\nDie Spark Arena öffnet erneut ihre Tore! Im inspirierenden Kurzformat zeigen Hochschullehrende\, wie sie Lehre gestalten – sie gewähren Aussenstehenden Einblicke in ihre Lehrtätigkeit. Durch den aktiven Einbezug werden die Beobachter:innen Teil der Lehrsettings. SUMMARY:An Equal to the British Empire. Sesame Street and the Utopian Dream of 'Culture Free' Education
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Helle Strandgaard Jensen will present her new book Sesame Street: A Transnational History. In the talk\, Jensen will tell the story of how the American television show became a global brand. She will take us behind the scenes\, detailing how she has combined archival research from seven countries and theories of comparative\, transfer and global history into an insightful analysis of how local reception and rejection of the show related to the global sales strategies and American ideals it was built upon. Contrary to the producers’ oft-publicized claims of Sesame Street’s universality\, the show was heavily shaped by a fixed set of assumptions about childhood\, education\, and commercial entertainment. This made sales difficult as Sesame Street met both skepticism and direct hostility from foreign television producers who did not share these ideals. Drawing on insights from new histories about childhood\, education\, and transnational media\, the book lays bare a cultural clash of international proportions rooted in divergent approaches to children’s television. In doing so\, it provides a reflective backdrop to the many ongoing debates about children’s media. \nBildung und Digitalität: Perspektiven aus Forschung und Praxis\nDie Veranstaltungen thematisieren unterschiedliche Aspekte\, die mit dem Thema Bildung und Digitalität zusammenhängen. Sie beleuchten\, auf welche Weise in Forschung und Praxis die Potenziale für Digitalisierung im Bildungswesen erschlossen und genutzt werden\, aber auch welche Herausforderungen sich ergeben. Die Reihe präsentiert verschiedene aktuelle Diskussionsfelder im Hinblick auf die Forschung und auf die Bildungspraxis. \nDie Veranstaltungsreihe findet vollständig online über Zoom statt. Sie besteht aus Vorträgen und Dialogen: \n\nIn den Vorträgen referieren Forscher:innen während einer 30-minütigen Präsentation zu ihrem Forschungsprojekt. Darauf folgt eine Diskussions- und Fragerunde mit den Zuhörenden.\nIn den Dialogen stellt eine Fachperson während eines Input-Referates ihre Forschung und Beispiele aus der Praxis vor. Danach besprechen die Zuhörer:innen in virtuellen Kleingruppen ihre Fragen an die Fachperson. DESCRIPTION:Kenneth Paterson\, Professor at the Insitute for Information Security at ETH Zurich\, will discuss a research theme that has emerged in the last few years\, namely the analysis of deployed cryptographic systems. In this line of work\, we either try to find vulnerabilities in the system (and disclose them to the affected vendors) or prove the security of the cryptographic core of the system.
