DESCRIPTION:The DSI Community Education launches «The Future of Higher Didactics» event series. It is an informative and hands-on workshop series designed to inspire educators\, researchers\, administrators\, and anyone passionate about higher learning. Through these workshops\, we aim to foster discussions\, share insights\, and envision the next era of higher education. \nJoin us for the first workshop “Designing effective and engaging learning environments with augmented reality” which will be led by Dr. Josef Buchner\, the head of research and development at St. Gallen University of Teacher Education. Augmented reality (AR) has the potential to enhance learning experiences by promoting motivation and interest. However\, research has shown that learning with AR can be challenging and cognitively demanding. Thus\, first\, Dr. Buchner will give an overview of effective instructional design principles for learning with AR. Und wohin wird uns die Reise noch führen\, besonders jetzt\, wo Apple das Feld betritt? Sebastian Tobler\, der mit seiner Digitalagentur Ateo seit einem Jahrzehnt Applikationen und Spiele in diesem vielschichtigen Universum kreiert\, lädt uns ein auf eine Entdeckungsreise – von den Anfängen mit dem ersten Entwicklungskit der Oculus Rift bis hin zur Vision der Apple Pro. SUMMARY:The post-Fordist neoliberal university and the algorithmized digital citizen
DESCRIPTION:The DSI Community Libraries has been able to invite Arjun Sanyal\, who is a librarian at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh\, India\, for a talk on acadamic librarianship. The main focus of his talk\, underpinned by a critical librarianship flavour\, is on the issue of why\, notwithstanding\, the overarching neoliberal presence\, the role of academic libraries in creating discerning users of information remains crucial\, for ensuring the flourishing of vibrant democracies. \nIn this regard\, the very concept of digital literacy is a nuanced one with several facets\, like media literacy\, information literacy\, audio-visual literacy and so on. To his mind\, algorithmic literacy is a suitable concept\, albeit complex\, but nonetheless comprehensively potent\, embracing other forms of literacy and entails a thorough understanding of the very social milieu that it affects. In fact\, the increasing algorithmization of our social selves\, including our socio-cognitive aspects\, lulls us into a false sense of techno-optimism. Hence\, fathoming the algorithmic social reality is easier said than done. \nIn his talk\, Arjun Sanyal will endeavour to present a conceptual framework for rethinking the modus operandi of digital literacy agenda in today’s post-Fordist neoliberal universities and institutes of higher education against the backdrop of an increasingly algorithmized social milieu. DESCRIPTION:„Games in Context“ Public Lecture Series with Attila Szantner (MMOS\, McGill University Canada)\n\nOver the last eight years\, an unlikely marriage has formed between AAA games and crowdsourced citizen science. Players of EVE Online and Borderlands 3 were introduced to new in-game features through which players can resolve scientific challenges through EVE Online: Project Discovery and Borderlands Science\, which engaged over 5 million players\, amassed over 700 million scientific data analyses\, and were praised by worldwide media in coverage from the New Yorker to the front-page of Nature Biotechnology\, becoming two of the most active and impactful citizen science projects to serve science. And this is all thanks to video games.\nThis talk will tell the story of how games and gamer communities can manifest themselves as a force for good in the world through community building and engagement\, employee retention through real-world impact\, and a contributor to scientific discoveries.

Zusammen mit dem erfahrenen Game Designer Luca Imesch vom Zürcher Indie Studio Flawberry Studio  probierst Du in diesem Workshop selbst aus\, wie man von einer einfachen Idee zum ersten spielbaren Papier-Prototypen kommt. Am Ende stellt Luca auch Programme vor\, mit denen Du auf ganz simple Weise digitale Spiele kreieren kannst. Zudem werden wir gemeinsam dem Global Game Jam einen kurzen Besuch abstatten\, wo Game Designer innerhalb von 48 Stunden zu einem vorgegebenen Thema ein Game kreieren.\nDieser Kurs ist speziell für Kinder im Alter von 8 bis 14 Jahren konzipiert und ist kostenlos. \nTickets hier \nNach einer dreijährigen Pause kehrt der Global Game Jam Zürich zurück\, diesmal organisiert vom Game Technology Center der ETH Zürich. SUMMARY:CYRENZH: Workshop on Cyber Clinics
DESCRIPTION:The mission of CYRENZH  is to establish a structure that can sustainably increase the cyber resilience in the Canton of Zurich\, thereby strengthening and protecting its economy and society. For that reason\, we are currently working to establish a joint UZH/ZHAW “cyber clinic” which will leverage the skills of university students to increase the cyber hygiene of eligible organizations. We currently view the scope of the cyber clinics as strictly preventative and want to permanently integrate them into the respective university structures. Extending this partnership to other local partners like the ETH is also a possibility we are exploring. \nCentral questions we want to answer at this stage are: What services should we offer? How can cyber clinics be sustainably integrated into existing and developing curricula? Who can teach courses and supervise students? In general\, what motivates stakeholders – students\, prospective clients\, and facilitators – to support and participate in this initiative? \nHOW WE WANT TO DO THAT? \nTo ensure sustainable engagement in the clinics\, it is important to understand the needs and interests of the designated stakeholders who will be involved in the Clinics – Students (who will provide the services)\, Clients (who will receive services)\, and Facilitators (who will coordinate and manage the Clinic activities\, give lectures\, supervise students\, and ensure overall quality control). Given the many services we could potentially offer\, it is important to prioritize them based on the stakeholder input. Concretely\, we want to: \n\nCompile a comprehensive list of possible services that could be listed in the portfolio\,\nGet a grasp of the potential obstacles and their solution\,\nDetermine the feasibility and impact of each service\,\nLearn about the skills\, willingness\, and motivation of the stakeholders to get involved.\n\nWORKSHOP \nFor this purpose\, we will conduct a workshop in our annual CYRENZH “Shaping the Roadmap” event. They both perform discrete on-demand tasks on platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk that computers are currently unable to do as economically. This includes task such as identifying specific content and tagging images accordingly. Sonia and Julio are two of the five crowdworkers who are part of the free print publication Exch w/ Turkers that will be launched.
