At what cost and with what benefit? \nApéro Digital is launching its first event\, in collaboration with the Swiss Digital Initiative (SDI)\, on the topic Certification Labels for AI Systems. In this event\, stakeholders interested in AI certification or currently involved in such efforts will gather to explore certification frameworks\, such as Digital Trust Labels\, through participatory and co-creation approaches. The event offers a curated space for AI innovators\, developers\, operators\, as well as ethical\, legal and regulatory experts to exchange insights and share experiences\, and to identify opportunities and challenges for navigating the path forward. Our goal is raising awareness of AI certification methodologies\, and empowering the innovation community with enhanced collective understanding. As partners on stage\, through improvisation and role-playing\, contemporary algorithms can be both highly entertaining and deeply confusing. For our symposium\, we have invited theatre practitioners and researchers who are integrating these new technologies into their artistic projects\, trying to master the technology and develop new artistic strategies. The workshop aims to further these developments by sharing knowledge on the technological\, artistic\, and ethical aspects of using LLMs in the performing arts. \nThe LLMs in the Performing Arts Symposium will provide three days of sustained exchange on several key areas: \n1. Collaborative Scriptwriting and Storytelling: using LLMs in the collaborative process of story generation.\n2. Interactive Theatre Performances: interacting with digital agents in real time on stage.\n3. Digital Agents as Characters: representing and designing digital agents for use on stage.\n4. Enhancing Stage Design and Direction: LLMs and AI assisting with stage design\, lighting\, and direction\, contributing to the overall aesthetic and thematic elements of a performance.\n5. Ethical and Creative Implications: exploring the ethical implications of using AI in theatre\, including concerns about authenticity\, the creative process\, and the future role of human actors and directors in an AI-enhanced environment.\n6. Future Prospects and Technological Advances: predicting future trends in the integration of AI in theatre. \nThe symposium aims to create a network of international practitioners engaged in cutting-edge research-creation on these topics. DESCRIPTION:Der Vortrag nimmt aus einer kritischen Perspektive die Thematik der Zugänglichkeit zu Videospielen in den Fokus\, wobei sowohl die Versprechen als auch die Herausforderungen digitaler Teilhabe untersucht werden. Anhand konkreter Beispiele wird die zunehmende Integration barrierefreier Optionen in Videospielen beleuchtet\, jedoch auch bestehende Barrieren und Ungleichheiten analysiert\, die Menschen mit Behinderungen den Zugang erschweren. DESCRIPTION:In the «Workshop on content analysis – Best practices\, challenges and opportunities in (automatic) content analysis for social science research: triangulating AI and other approaches to cover ethical topics» participants will learn how to triangulate main approaches and strategies for studying social science related concepts in text collections with (automated) content analysis methods\, including large language models. Challenges and opportunities of these approaches will be discussed and datasets from social media\, news media and expert communication are selected to highlight ethical questions while addressing topics of interest for communication\, political\, linguistic and social sciences (including algorithms\, religion\, health and ethics). \nAgainst this background\, the workshop highlights methods of distant reading and how\, due to recent advances\, also close reading is increasingly possible automatically. The focus will be on ethical questions and include large language models. SUMMARY:The post-Fordist neoliberal university and the algorithmized digital citizen
DESCRIPTION:The DSI Community Libraries has been able to invite Arjun Sanyal\, who is a librarian at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh\, India\, for a talk on acadamic librarianship. The main focus of his talk\, underpinned by a critical librarianship flavour\, is on the issue of why\, notwithstanding\, the overarching neoliberal presence\, the role of academic libraries in creating discerning users of information remains crucial\, for ensuring the flourishing of vibrant democracies. \nIn this regard\, the very concept of digital literacy is a nuanced one with several facets\, like media literacy\, information literacy\, audio-visual literacy and so on. To his mind\, algorithmic literacy is a suitable concept\, albeit complex\, but nonetheless comprehensively potent\, embracing other forms of literacy and entails a thorough understanding of the very social milieu that it affects. In fact\, the increasing algorithmization of our social selves\, including our socio-cognitive aspects\, lulls us into a false sense of techno-optimism. Hence\, fathoming the algorithmic social reality is easier said than done. \nIn his talk\, Arjun Sanyal will endeavour to present a conceptual framework for rethinking the modus operandi of digital literacy agenda in today’s post-Fordist neoliberal universities and institutes of higher education against the backdrop of an increasingly algorithmized social milieu.
