Die Beiträge in Form von Vorträgen und Gesprächen mit Gästen\, fokussieren auf die Jetztzeit\, praktizieren\, was Hegel die «die Zeit in Gedanken erfasst» bezeichnet hat. Es geht um die Fragen\, welche die Gegenwart aufwirft\, die Probleme\, mit denen sie uns konfrontiert. In den Beiträgen werden die Ereignisse der Gegenwart aus persönlicher\, fachlicher und künstlerischer Perspektive analysiert\, um über die kulturellen\, sozialen\, politischen\, wirtschaftlichen und ästhetischen Konsequenzen dieser Gegenwart nachzudenken. \nWas uns in diesem Jahr besonders interessiert\, sind kulturanalytische Perspektiven auf KI. SUMMARY:Research Hackathon: Investigating the Role of AI in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:«Research Hackathon: Investigating the Role of AI in Higher Education» aims at fostering collaboration among university researchers\, lecturers and students. Participants will work together to define research projects that explore the application and implications of AI in higher education. \nWith insights from keynote speakers and guidance from mentors\, attendees will explore how research can help to address the challenges and opportunities that AI brings to higher education. The event will culminate in a pitch session where projects will be evaluated by a jury panel\, with opportunities for participating teams to be supervised further by one of the jury members and potentially apply for research funding. \nThe aim of the hackathon is to define research projects that investigate the impact and potential of AI in improving higher education. \nAll participants will be awarded certificates and receive special gifts. The Hackathon is organized by DSI Community Education. \n\n\n\n\n\nMore information and registration (application deadline: August 19\, 2024) \n\n\n\n\n\nParticipation requirements: \n\ninterest in AI and higher education\naffiliation with Swiss university\nmembership in DSI Community Education (to apply contact Diana Pak; it is free\, fast\, and easy)\nprofessional working proficiency in English (C1)\nown laptop\n\nRegistration: \n\nYou can register/apply individually or as a team (2-3 people).\nAs the event room has a limited capacity for participants\, the organizing team will select the participants based on submitted applications. DESCRIPTION:In diesem Vortrag spricht Theresa Schaffer über die entscheidende Bedeutung von Diversität\, Gleichheit und Inklusion (DEI) in der Gaming- und Esports Branche. Gaming hat sich zu einem globalen Phänomen entwickelt und erreicht Millionen von Spieler*innen aus unterschiedlichen demografischen Gruppen. Allein in der Schweiz spielen rund 2 Millionen Menschen 2x pro Woche Videospiele – davon sind 44% Frauen. Dennoch steht die Branche vor erheblichen Herausforderungen im Bezug auf Diversity und Inklusivität. Wir schauen uns gemeinsam Initiativen der DACH-Szene an und mit welchen Problemen diese zu kämpfen haben. SUMMARY:Generative AI\, Social Media\, and the Super-Election Year of 2024
DESCRIPTION:Fellow Lecture by\n\n\n\nUlrike Klinger\nSenior Fellow 2023–2024\n\n\nPublicly available tools like ChatGPT\, Dall.E\, or Midjourney enable internet users to create texts and images from prompts without programming skills or expert knowledge. They also add to the strategic arsenal of political campaigns\, for instance by providing cheap visual content without copyright issues. In an increasingly visual campaign environment on platforms like Instagram or TikTok\, politicians and political parties use these images to illustrate their ideologies–and\, potentially\, to create and spread disinformation. \nLike many technologies before\, the rise of generative AI is accompanied by fierce public debates along the lines of “glory” and “doom”\, various dichotomous predictions ranging from existential fears to instrumental concerns. With regards to election campaigns\, AI arrives in times of democratic backsliding and an epistemic crisis\, feeding into worries about the future of public spheres and citizen’s perceptions of a shared reality. \nWill the widely available AI tools\, in combination with the (so far) almost unregulated distributive power of social media platforms\, unleash the perfect storm in a year when more than half of the world’s population is called to vote in over 60 elections? \nThe lecture will start with some compelling examples of how artificially created contents are being used in election campaigns\, and will discuss key insights from media effects studies on the impact of election campaigns on voting decisions\, providing a deeper understanding of the evolving field of digital political communication.

At what cost and with what benefit? \nApéro Digital is launching its first event\, in collaboration with the Swiss Digital Initiative (SDI)\, on the topic Certification Labels for AI Systems. In this event\, stakeholders interested in AI certification or currently involved in such efforts will gather to explore certification frameworks\, such as Digital Trust Labels\, through participatory and co-creation approaches. The event offers a curated space for AI innovators\, developers\, operators\, as well as ethical\, legal and regulatory experts to exchange insights and share experiences\, and to identify opportunities and challenges for navigating the path forward. Our goal is raising awareness of AI certification methodologies\, and empowering the innovation community with enhanced collective understanding. Contributing to playwriting and storytelling\, reshaping interactions between actors and audiences\, and influencing bodies and stage technology\, Large Language Models (LLMs) are challenging established work processes and the theatrical system as a whole. As partners on stage\, through improvisation and role-playing\, contemporary algorithms can be both highly entertaining and deeply confusing. For our symposium\, we have invited theatre practitioners and researchers who are integrating these new technologies into their artistic projects\, trying to master the technology and develop new artistic strategies. The workshop aims to further these developments by sharing knowledge on the technological\, artistic\, and ethical aspects of using LLMs in the performing arts. \nThe LLMs in the Performing Arts Symposium will provide three days of sustained exchange on several key areas: \n1. Collaborative Scriptwriting and Storytelling: using LLMs in the collaborative process of story generation.\n2. Interactive Theatre Performances: interacting with digital agents in real time on stage.\n3. Digital Agents as Characters: representing and designing digital agents for use on stage.\n4. Enhancing Stage Design and Direction: LLMs and AI assisting with stage design\, lighting\, and direction\, contributing to the overall aesthetic and thematic elements of a performance.\n5. Ethical and Creative Implications: exploring the ethical implications of using AI in theatre\, including concerns about authenticity\, the creative process\, and the future role of human actors and directors in an AI-enhanced environment.\n6. Future Prospects and Technological Advances: predicting future trends in the integration of AI in theatre. \nThe symposium aims to create a network of international practitioners engaged in cutting-edge research-creation on these topics.
