SUMMARY:Museum of the Future – 17 digitale Experimente
DESCRIPTION:Zu gross\, zu klein\, zu schützenswert: Viele Exponate können von den Besucher:innen im Museum nur eingeschränkt erlebt werden. Die Ausstellung erforscht\, wie Digitalisierung und Künstliche Intelligenz das Erlebnis von Objekten im Museum der Zukunft erweitern können. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEin Stuhl\, auf dem man nicht mehr sitzen darf\, oder eine Marionette\, die still an ihren Fäden hängt: Viele faszinierende Objekte lassen sich im Museum nur schwer ausstellen. Manche sind zu gross\, andere zu filigran\, und wieder andere dürfen aus konservatorischen Gründen nicht berührt oder bewegt werden. Das Ausstellen von Objekten erfordert stets einen Balanceakt zwischen den beiden zentralen Aufgaben eines Museums: dem Bewahren und dem Vermitteln. Dadurch sind die Exponate für Besucher:innen oft nur eingeschränkt erfahrbar. Doch welche Möglichkeiten bieten digitale Technologien\, um Objekte erlebbar zu machen? Die Ausstellung erforscht die Potenziale der Digitalisierung und der KI für das Museum der Zukunft. 17 Experimente verwandeln den Ausstellungsraum in ein Zukunftslabor und ermöglichen es dem Publikum\, nicht zuletzt das grösste je geschaffene digitale Bild zu entdecken.

SUMMARY:Workshop zum Innovationskredit der Stadt Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Der Innovationskredit ist ein Instrument der Stadt Zürich zur Förderung innovativer Ideen auf niederschwelliger Ebene. Auf diese Weise sollen gute Ideen schnell und unkompliziert umgesetzt werden können. Durch iterative Tests kann die Stadtverwaltung aus Erfahrungen lernen und erfolgreiche Projekte skalieren – für eine nachhaltige Stadt Zürich. \nUm neue Ideen zu generieren\, organisiert die DSI in Zusammenarbeit mit «Smart City Zürich» den dritten Workshop. Der Workshop bietet die Möglichkeit\, gemeinsam mit Partner:innen aus der Stadtverwaltung Zürich interessante Projekte zu lancieren und zu finanzieren. Mehrere DSI Fakultätsmitglieder haben sich bereits erfolgreich für ein solches Innovationsprojekt beworben. \nVon besonderem Interesse sind Projekte\, die sich an der Strategie Zürich 2040 orientieren. Die Strategie identifiziert vier Handlungsfelder und entsprechende Dimensionen/Ziele. SUMMARY:YouTube als digitale Spielplattform
DESCRIPTION:Ob per Twitch Live-Stream\, Let’s Play YouTube Video\, oder im Rahmen von massenmedial übertragenen E-Sports Turnierer\, digitales Spielen findet heute nicht mehr nur am heimischen Bildschirm statt\, sondern wird zur Performance vor einem breiten Publikum. Videos von bekannten Let’s Playern werden mitunter millionenfach abgespielt und sind bei vielen Nutzern einschlägiger Plattformen fester Bestandteil des medialen Alltags – teilweise ersetzen sie das Spielen selbst. Wie und was wird denn aber auf Video-Streaming und -Sharing Plattformen gespielt? Welche Nutzungspraktiken und Umgangsweisen mit digitalen Spielen haben sich im Zusammenhang mit digitalen Spielen dort entwickelt? \nDieser Hands-On Workshop fokussiert konkret die Plattform YouTube und lädt dazu ein\, diese als einen zentralen spielkulturellen Raum zu betrachten\, in dem digitale Spiele auf vielfältige\, teils unkonventionelle Weise gespielt\, analysiert\, performiert und verhandelt werden. Im ersten Teil des Workshops möchte ich anhand eigener Forschungen zum Spiel von und mit Animal Crossing: New Horizons\, Death Stranding\, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom\, und Streetfighter 6 im ostasiatschen Sprachraum auf YouTube einen Einblick in die vielfältigen Praktiken geben\, mit denen die entsprechenden Spiele auf der Plattform verhandelt werden\, und zum anderen auf die weichen und harten Schranken aufzeigen\, in die Plattformen diese Praktiken verweisen. Im zweiten Teil des Workshops möchte ich die Teilnehmenden dazu anregen\, ausgewählte Videoinhalte und Nutzendenreaktionen gemeinsam zu analysieren und zu diskutieren. \n\nProf. Dr. Martin Roth\nMehr zur Person \n

DESCRIPTION:Abendvortrag von Dr. Johannes Mangei (HAB\, Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel) im Rahmen des Workshops «Digitales Edieren in Gedächtnisinstitutionen» \n«Grössere Textmengen am Bildschirm lesen\, ist mir zu anstrengend.» «Eine Edition als gedrucktes Buch ist mir lieber\, ich finde das schöner\, es funktioniert ohne Rechner und es ist ganz einfach dauerhaft verfügbar.» «Digitale Editionen sollen doch Wissenschaftler an Hochschulen und Universitäten machen\, und nicht Bibliothekare.» \nMit solchen oder ähnlichen Äusserungen wird man an Gedächtnisinstitutionen gelegentlich konfrontiert\, wenn die Rede auf Digitale Editionen kommt. Andere Stimmen betonen die Vorzüge von Digitalen Editionen: Häufig werden die Durchsuchbarkeit\, die leichtere Überarbeitung\, Nachnutzung und Zugänglichkeit adressiert. Der angekündigte Abendvortrag als Beitrag zum Workshop «Digitales Edieren in Gedächtnisinstitutionen» beruht auf der institutionellen Erfahrung von mehr als zwanzig Jahren digitalem Edieren an der Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel. Dabei werden neben den angesprochenen Punkten weitere Aspekte wie Kooperationen\, Standards\, Transformationen\, Meta- und Forschungsdaten thematisiert\, und anhand konkreter Beispiele auch Herausforderungen des Arbeitsgebiets dargestellt. \nDr. Johannes Mangei ist seit 2018 Leiter der Abteilung Neuere Medien\, Digitale Bibliothek und Stellvertretender Direktor der Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel (HAB). In seinen Zuständigkeitsbereich fallen somit u.a. die digitalen Editionen\, die an der HAB entstehen. SUMMARY:Workshop: Digitales Edieren in Gedächtnisinstitutionen
DESCRIPTION:Seit der ‚Digitalen Wende‘ sind Gedächtnisinstitutionen mit neuen Aufgaben befasst: Neben der traditionellen Erschliessung von Materialien und Beständen sowie der digitalen Präsentation von Quellen und Dokumenten übernehmen sie in zunehmendem Masse auch weitreichende Aufgaben im Bereich der digitalen Editorik. Sie verfolgen eigene digitale Editionsprojekte\, in denen sie ausgewählte Bestände nach philologischen Kriterien öffentlich zugänglich machen\, oder arbeiten mit Forschungsteams in Projekten zusammen. \nDer Workshop möchte sich näher mit dem digitalen Edieren in Gedächtnisinstitutionen befassen und die gemachten Erfahrungen zusammentragen. Aus der spezifischen Perspektive dieser Institutionen soll der editorische Prozess von der Projektidee über die Umsetzungen bis hin zum Projektabschluss in den Blick genommen werden. Es geht dabei um einen Austausch\, der dos und dont’s thematisiert und möglicherweise auch dazu beitragen kann\, zukünftige Projekte effizienter zu gestalten und durchzuführen. \nAblauf: Der Workshop folgt einer thematischen Ausrichtung. Zu Beginn sollen alle teilnehmenden Institutionen ihre abgeschlossenen\, laufenden und geplanten Editionsprojekte kurz vorstellen. Danach werden die unten aufgeführten Fragen und Problemlagen diskutiert. Jede Institution soll diesbezüglich eine kurze Stellungnahme vorbereiten. So tragen wir zu den verschiedenen Aspekten die Erfahrungen zusammen: Wie sind Sie mit diesem Arbeitsschritt umgegangen oder planen es zu tun? Welche Herausforderungen haben Sie dabei erlebt\, welche Lösungen gefunden und wie befriedigend sind diese Lösungen? In welchen anderen digitalen Editionen scheinen besonders gute Lösungen vorzuliegen? \nWir möchten gerne so konkret wie möglich über die aufgeführten Aspekte sprechen. \nFolgende Institutionen haben neben der ZB Zürich ihre Teilnahme zugesagt und werden aus ihren jeweiligen Projekten berichten: Staatsarchiv des Kantons Zürich\, Schweizerisches Literaturarchiv (Bern)\, Universitätsbibliothek Bern\, Literaturarchive ETH Zürich (Thomas Mann/Max Frisch)\, Stadtarchiv der Ortsbürgergemeinde St.Gallen. SUMMARY:CYRENZH Summer School 2025 Human Factors in Cybersecurity and Privacy: Interdisciplinary Research Methods
DESCRIPTION:Human factors in cybersecurity and privacy are an emerging field for research and industry and due to the increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks\, their importance is growing. To enhance cybersecurity through fostering cyberresilience\, recent approaches in research ask for novel methods to account for enabling approaches that view human factors and technology as partners. \nThus\, aiming to provide detailed knowledge and hands-on experience\, the participants of the CYRENZH Summer School 2025 are going to understand in-depth and apply interdisciplinary research methods (e.g. mixed-methods approaches\, the use of AI in research) from the field of Social Sciences\, but also with inputs from Computer Science. Further\, this summer school is supplemented with an emphasis on transdisciplinary topics such as communication skills\, ethical considerations\, and collaborations with industry. \nThe CYRENZH Summer School 2025 welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds interested in understanding and applying different research methods/approaches for interdisciplinary research focused on human factors in cybersecurity. DESCRIPTION:The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been perceived as marking a turning point in technological advancement\, has triggered global ethical debates\, and reinvigorated questions about the nature and purpose of humanity. AI is seen as having the potential to not only reshape economies and societies but also transform our fundamental understanding of intelligence\, consciousness\, and human existence and meaning. The supposed promises of AI – its potential for salvation\, progress\, and transformation – are constantly juxtaposed with fears of unintended\nconsequences\, loss of human agency\, and moral dilemmas. SUMMARY:Digital Sovereignty in a Fragmented World: Power\, Control\, and the Future of Global Order
DESCRIPTION:The digital revolution has reshaped how nations govern\, compete\, and interact with each other. It has also changed States’ abilities to exercise power – both regulatory and direct – without regard to distance and borders. What does this mean for users\, businesses\, Swiss and Europeans? \nThis lecture by Przemysław Roguski explores the urgent global debate on digital sovereignty: the struggle of states to control data\, technologies and infrastructures within their borders. Through a comparative analysis of Europe\, the United States\, China and Russia\, it examines how different conceptions of sovereignty are rewriting the rules of international law and geopolitics. \nDr. Przemysław Roguski is an assistant professor at the Jagiellonian University Chair for Public International Law and Principal Investigator at the «Sovereignty 2.0 – ‘digital sovereignty’ in light of public international law» project\, which is financed with a grant from the Polish National Science Council (NCN). His research focuses on the law of peacetime cyber operations and different aspects of international law relating to cybersecurity\, ICT and internet governance. Przemysław holds law degrees from the University of Mainz (Germany)\, Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and a PhD in international law from Jagiellonian University. Seither hat sich viel getan. In grossen Rollenspielen wie Baldur’s Gate 3 oder Dragon Age: The Veilgard können Spielende ihren Avatar frei gestalten\, ohne Einschränkungen durch ein binäres Geschlechtssystem. In Wylde Flowers wird man schon in den ersten Minuten von einer Pride-Flage begrüsst. Doch am anderen Ende der Gaming Community wird gerade deswegen immer noch regelmässig zu Protesten (oder Schlimmerem) aufgerufen. DESCRIPTION:Antonio Somaini ist Professor für Filmtheorie\, Medien und visuelle Kultur an der Université Sorbonne Nouvelle und Senior Member des Institut Universitaire de France. \nAntonio Somainis Forschung in den Bereichen Filmwissenschaft\, visuelle Studien und Medientheorie verfolgt einen zweigleisigen Ansatz. Einerseits untersucht er die Theorien der 1920er und 1930er Jahre\, um sie mit Fragen zeitgenössischer Film-\, Bild- und Medientheorie in in Verbindung zu bringen. Andererseits konzentriert er sich auf die zeitgenössische visuelle Kultur und behandelt und verortet Themen wie neue Formen des maschinellen Sehens und neue Bilder\, die durch maschinelle Lernprozesse erzeugt werden\, in einer historischen Perspektive. \nAntonio Somaini wird im Zusammenhang mit der von ihm am Jeu de Paume in Paris kuratierten Ausstellung Le monde selon l’IA (11.4.-21.9.2025) über «A Theory of Latent Spaces» im Kontext künstlicher Intelligenz sprechen. \nDie Veranstaltung ist eine Kooperation des Seminars für Filmwissenschaft mit dem Zentrum Künste und Kulturtheorie. \n2. SUMMARY:The New Voyeurism: Criminalising the Creation of «Deepfake Porn»
DESCRIPTION:Lawmakers around the world are turning their attention to deepfake sexual abuse to reduce its prevalence and provide redress to victims. Thus far\, both civil and criminal law reforms have tended to focus on the distribution of this material. \nFar less attention has been given to targeting the root cause\, namely the creation of these «sexual digital forgeries». In their upcoming article\, Clare M. S. McGlynn and Rüya Tuna Toparlak provide the first comprehensive examination of the criminalisation of the creation of sexually explicit deepfakes\, advancing the idea that this phenomenon should be understood as the «new voyeurism». They explore the harmful nature of this behaviour including the «invisible threat» of deepfake sexual abuse now pervading the lives of all women and girls and justify the deployment of criminal sanctions. This is followed by an analysis of the laws in jurisdictions which currently criminalise creating sexually explicit deepfakes. \nIn this presentation\, Rüya Tuna Toparlak (PhD candidate at University of Luzern) will talk about the current epidemic of sexual digital forgeries\, their legal standing and legal policy decisions around the world to combat the abuse as well as the applicable laws in Switzerland. DESCRIPTION:Im Rahmen des DIZH-Forschungsprojekts „Gestalte Zürich“ wurde ein Virtual-Reality-Tool entwickelt\, das es ermöglicht\, geplante städtebauliche Veränderungen\, wie neue Platzgestaltungen\, verkehrsberuhigende Massnahmen oder Grünflächen\, bereits in der Konzeptionsphase virtuell zu erleben. \nAnhand der Sihlstrasse wird demonstriert\, wie zukünftige Stadtentwicklungsprozesse partizipativ und interaktiv gestaltet werden können. \n  \nNach fast zwei Jahren intensiver Forschung und Entwicklung haben wir im DIZH-Forschungsprojekt „Gestalte Zürich“ ein innovatives VR-Tool entwickelt\, mit dem man geplante Umgestaltungen – wie neue Platzverhältnisse\, verkehrsberuhigende Massnahmen oder Grünflächen – bereits in der Konzeptionsphase virtuell erleben und partizipativ mitgestalten kann.\nJetzt habt ihr die Gelegenheit\, dieses Tool live zu testen! SUMMARY:Embodied Generativity: Critical AI\, Art & the Body
DESCRIPTION:Artist Talk with Eryk Salvaggio\n\n\nThe interface of generative AI presents a passive mode of media production\, modeled after the submission of a ticket to a tech stack\, or a request for a chatbot helpdesk. What other modes of interaction might artists engage with to get at these tools beyond the keyboard? In a presentation of selected works\, the artist\, theorist and AI researcher Eryk Salvaggio explores positions\, gestures and attitudes toward AI that reflect its brittle comprehension of creative logic and the world at large. This talk will present works and propose novel workflows that challenge ideas of «generativity» by moving it from the visual senses to the body\, examining video\, performance\, dance\, and puppetry. \nEryk Salvaggio is a researcher and new media artist interested in the social and cultural impacts of artificial intelligence. His work explores the creative misuse of AI and the transformation of archives into datasets for AI training: a practice designed to expose ideologies of tech and to confront the gaps between datasets and the worlds they claim to represent. A blend of hacker\, researcher\, designer and artist\, he has been published in academic journals\, spoken at music and film festivals\, and consulted on tech policy at the national level. He is a researcher on AI\, art and education at the metaLab (at) Harvard University\, the Emerging Technology Research Advisor to the Siegel Family Endowment\, and a fellow and top contributor to Tech Policy Press. He holds an MSc in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and an MSc in Applied Cybernetics from the Australian National University. \nA cooperation of the DIZH-Bridge Professorship for Digital Cultures and Arts with the Department Fine Arts (DFA) at ZHdK. \nThe event will be held in English. \nVenue: Raum 6.K04 / Zürcher Hochschule der Künste\nPfingstweidstrasse 96\, 8031 Zürich
