DESCRIPTION:The annual Plenary Assembly has become a central part of the exchange between researchers from the DIZH partner universities. And while the end of the DIZH is still a few years ahead\, it seems to be time to start thinking about how to sustain the initiatives in which the universities work together.  \nUnder the theme Digital Futures\, this year’s assembly invites all researchers from DIZH partner universities – whether part of a joint structure or not – to reflect together on what cross-university collaboration can look like beyond 2029. The conversation draws on what researchers have learned – and how that knowledge can be shared and built upon.  \nResearchers from DIZH partner universities will present their experiences with and strategies for interdisciplinary innovation\, followed by an open discussion on how collaboration can grow and endure – and how researchers outside formal structures can connect\, contribute\, and shape what comes next.  \nThe Plenary Assembly will conclude with an apéro\, providing further networking opportunities where conversations can continue and collaborations can take root.  \nRegistration is closed\, but spontaneous guests are always welcome!

DESCRIPTION:During this year`s edition of Zurich Art Weekend\, the Immersive Arts Space will show Instruction for Use.\nIt is a performative XR-based installation involving visitors interacting in mixed reality headsets. The work is inspired by Fluxus performances as well as artist Bruce Nauman’s repetitive and ritualistic endurance videos from the 1960s where language is used to instruct physical action. AI agents analyze what cameras embedded in the headsets see and generate voiced-over instructions that provoke surprising actions/interactions between the visitors. DESCRIPTION:From Sketch to Signal: Building a Digital Pain Drawing Tool from Anatomical Illustration to Structured Clinical Data\nPain drawings are widely used in clinical practice\, but their value depends on more than simply digitizing a paper form. In this talk\, we present our digital pain drawing project from two connected perspectives: the development of an anatomically grounded\, sex-neutral illustration and the implementation of a tool that transforms patient-reported pain markings into structured\, analyzable data. Yanick Lukic describes the interdisciplinary design process behind the body chart\, including iterative refinement with illustrators\, anatomists\, clinicians\, psychologists\, and technical developers\, and discuss lessons learned about neutrality\, anatomical accuracy\, visual clarity\, and user acceptance. We then show how this illustration became the basis of an interactive prototype that supports intuitive pain marking\, region-level mapping\, and integration with interoperable standards and terminologies such as FHIR and SNOMED CT. Finally\, we discuss early evaluation results\, the current prototype that is about to enter usability testing\, and what this work suggests for patient-centered documentation\, longitudinal tracking\, and future data-driven pain assessment. \nAbout Yanick Lukic\nDr. Yanick Lukic is a Lecturer and Senior Researcher in Human-Centered Computing at the ZHAW School of Engineering\, working on digital health and human-centered technologies. DESCRIPTION:The 3-year DIZH project «Government as a Platform: Orchestrating Stakeholders in Crisis Situations through Digital Platforms in the Canton of Zurich» focused on supporting Swiss public administration in building resilience to crises. Using the Ukrainian refugee crisis as a case study\, an experimental open platform was developed to improve coordination between different stakeholders in the Canton of Zurich. \nThe final presentation offers an opportunity to explore key findings from the research and to discuss the future of digital resilience in Switzerland – including how a GaaP approach can be applied in crisis situations. DESCRIPTION:Anna-Verena Nosthoff und Felix Maschewski im Gespräch mit Roland Meyer \nUnsere Gegenwart\, in der Technologie und Wissen exponentiell an Bedeutung gewinnen\, ist zugleich auch eine Zeit ungebremster Krisen – nicht zuletzt ausgelöst dadurch\, dass sich die ungleiche Verteilung von Ressourcen rasant zuspitzt. Interessant wird es\, wenn nicht diese Ungleichverteilungen als Problem adressiert werden – sondern stattdessen (meist lukrative) Möglichkeiten geliefert werden\, die daraus entstandenen Krisen zu «managen».\nDer Begriff «Lösungsorientierung» kann also ein Denken kennzeichnen\, das eher an Marktbedürfnissen als an der demokratischen Aushandlung der Interessen von Vielen orientiert ist. Das Versprechen\, die Macht der Technologie für das Gemeinwohl zu nutzen\, gab Unternehmer:innen in dem Moment\, als klar wurde\, dass die kapitalistische Wirtschaftsweise eher soziale Probleme verursacht\, als sie zu lösen\, ihre Legitimität zurück – so die Soziologen Oliver Nachtwey und Timo Seidl. Sie argumentieren\, dass dieser Solutionismus den «Geist des digitalen Kapitalismus» kennzeichnet\, d.h. die Überzeugungen\, die das Handeln heutiger digitalen Eliten (Gründer:innen\, Risikokapitalgeber:innen\, leitende Ingenieur:innen\, Manager:innen usw.) legitimieren\, motivieren und ausrichten.\nEvgeny Morozov definiert den Solutionismus als eine Ideologie\, die «alle komplexen sozialen Situationen entweder als sauber definierte Probleme mit definitiven\, berechenbaren Lösungen oder als transparente und selbstverständliche Prozesse umgestaltet\, die leicht optimiert werden können – wenn nur die richtigen Algorithmen vorhanden sind». Soziale Probleme erscheinen so nicht mehr als Ergebnis von Macht- oder Vermögensasymmetrien\, sondern als Ergebnis von Ineffizienzen und Mängeln: Sei es die Klimakrise\, der Hunger oder demotivierte Mitarbeiter:innen\, passend zu jedem gesellschaftlichen Nagel existiert ein technologischer Hammer. SUMMARY:(ER)LÖSUNGEN IM WELTRAUM. Der Techfaschismus und die nordamerikanische Astrokultur
DESCRIPTION:Jens Temmen im Gespräch mit Katharina Gerund \nUnsere Gegenwart\, in der Technologie und Wissen exponentiell an Bedeutung gewinnen\, ist zugleich auch eine Zeit ungebremster Krisen – nicht zuletzt ausgelöst dadurch\, dass sich die ungleiche Verteilung von Ressourcen rasant zuspitzt. Interessant wird es\, wenn nicht diese Ungleichverteilungen als Problem adressiert werden – sondern stattdessen (meist lukrative) Möglichkeiten geliefert werden\, die daraus entstandenen Krisen zu «managen».\nDer Begriff «Lösungsorientierung» kann also ein Denken kennzeichnen\, das eher an Marktbedürfnissen als an der demokratischen Aushandlung der Interessen von Vielen orientiert ist. Das Versprechen\, die Macht der Technologie für das Gemeinwohl zu nutzen\, gab Unternehmer:innen in dem Moment\, als klar wurde\, dass die kapitalistische Wirtschaftsweise eher soziale Probleme verursacht\, als sie zu lösen\, ihre Legitimität zurück – so die Soziologen Oliver Nachtwey und Timo Seidl. Sie argumentieren\, dass dieser Solutionismus den «Geist des digitalen Kapitalismus» kennzeichnet\, d.h. die Überzeugungen\, die das Handeln heutiger digitalen Eliten (Gründer:innen\, Risikokapitalgeber:innen\, leitende Ingenieur:innen\, Manager:innen usw.) legitimieren\, motivieren und ausrichten.\nEvgeny Morozov definiert den Solutionismus als eine Ideologie\, die «alle komplexen sozialen Situationen entweder als sauber definierte Probleme mit definitiven\, berechenbaren Lösungen oder als transparente und selbstverständliche Prozesse umgestaltet\, die leicht optimiert werden können – wenn nur die richtigen Algorithmen vorhanden sind». Soziale Probleme erscheinen so nicht mehr als Ergebnis von Macht- oder Vermögensasymmetrien\, sondern als Ergebnis von Ineffizienzen und Mängeln: Sei es die Klimakrise\, der Hunger oder demotivierte Mitarbeiter:innen\, passend zu jedem gesellschaftlichen Nagel existiert ein technologischer Hammer. Hämmer\, die wiederum auf die Suche nach Nägeln gehen müssen\, um legitim zu bleiben. \nZum Veranstaltungsort K72*\, Konradstrasse 72\, 8005 Zürich:\nK72 ist der Name einer Projektplattform in der Konradstrasse 72. Der Ort\, Homebase des Forschungsprojekts «druckend denken» am Department Kulturanalysen und Vermittlung der ZHdK\, wird seit Oktober 2024 parallel von Studierenden und Lehrenden des Majors «Critical Social Practice in Art Education» für Aktionen im Feld von Critical Education & the Arts genutzt. Ziel dieser Aktionen und Aktivitäten ist es\, eine Schnittstelle zur Stadtgesellschaft herzustellen. Gearbeitet wird dabei mit künstlerisch-edukativen Praktiken.
